President's Update, 25 Feb 2019

Feb 25, 2019 -- Posted by : dave

Greetings,

To give everyone an update to what is going on and around AFSA. On March 7-9 your AFSA International Executive Council is traveling to the AFSA HQs for the annual Mid-Year Meetings. Unfortunately, I am unable to represent our division and have asked Division Trustee Kevin Ott to represent our division. We are also fortunate to have two division members who are also on the International Council that will be at the meetings; International Retired & Veterans Affairs Trustee Dale Lutzen (also our Division Senior Advisor) and International Family Affairs Trustee Patti Dalzell (Chapter 804). During these meeting the International President and AFSA Executive Director will provide an overview on what is happening across our Association and an update the attendees to what the HQs is doing in representing our members on Capitol Hill. During our division conference Trustee Ott will provide everyone an update to what was discussed during the Mid-Years meetings. Speaking of our conference, Chapter 872 (Scott AFB) is in the initial planning stages of our division conference and we need your support in sending 3-4 (or more) attendees from every chapter. We also need your support in submitting annual award nominees, this your opportunity to recognize your dedicated volunteers in being recognized at the division-level who will go forward to compete at the international-level. Here is the link for the awards program http://www.afsadiv3.org/index.php/fraternity/afsa-...http://www.afsadiv3.org/index.php/download_file/fo.... If there are any questions about the booklet please let me know. As a reminder conference registration forms are due 18 March and the last day to reserve hotel rooms are 25 March.

Next, what update wouldn’t be complete unless I injected something about membership! At the beginning of the year we established membership recruiting and retention goals for each chapter. We are two months into the new year and we have some chapters who have not recruited and/or retained one member. We need your support in achieving your chapter’s goal. I challenge every chapter president and vice president to recruit or retain 5 members before our division conference. We cannot expect the chapter membership trustee to carry the weight for the entire chapter, we need everyone to get involved. The membership committee is the most important committee of any chapter, without a strong membership base, nothing else the chapter does will have purpose. Just imagine if every member of your chapter recruited one new member today. Your chapter membership would double overnight! Please make the extra effort to make membership a priority for your chapter.

Well-done Diana!!!

The Winter Edition of the AFSA Magazine was recently published and there are some great articles that everyone should read. If you are a new chapter president I highly recommend reading the article authored by Chapter 652 (Keesler AFB) “Membership = Leadership and Mentorship”. Also, the HQs now has the capability to provide printed magazine for those members who prefers to receive a hard copy of the magazine. There is a cost to receive the magazine, https://www.hqafsa.org/winter2019.html

Lastly, I still need the following chapter reports. I must have these reports as soon as possible.

851 – Milwaukee: DOO

858 – Minneapolis: DOO

872 – Scott AFB: Audit

881 – Whitman AFB: Audit, Budget, DOO, 3rd & 4th Qtr AAF 2018

883 – Ft Leonard Wood: Audit, Budget, DOO

964 – Grand Forks AFB: Audit, DOO

972 – McConnell AFB: Audit, Budget, DOO, 3rd & 4th Qtr AAF 2018

990 – Vance AFB: Audit, Budget, DOO, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Qtr AAF 2018

Thanks for all that you do!

Steve
